Hypnotherapy Near Me
Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is the therapeutic use of hypnosis. It is often referred to as a trance-like state or altered state of conscious awareness. It is similar to a deep relaxed meditation that you allow yourself to enter whilst remaining in full control.
Hypnotherapy works on the principle that you have all the resources you need at a deep unconscious level to help you create the changes you want and achieve your desired outcomes. Through positive suggestions and therapeutic exercises whilst in a hypnotic trance, you are able to connect to the unconscious part of your mind, let go of unwanted behaviours, habits or beliefs and develop the changes that will benefit you.
For example – if you’re experiencing bouts of stress, anxiety or lack of confidence, hypnosis can help access your inner resources and help you build a calmer, more confident you.
Anyone can be hypnotised providing they want to and allow it to happen. Although some people are more susceptible than others, nobody can force you into a trance state without your consent. The method is fully discussed and explained, and the suggestions agreed before you embark on a hypnosis session. The hypnosis will begin only when and if you are happy to go ahead.
Throughout the process you remain aware of your surroundings, can hear the hypnotic suggestions and feel a sense of peace and tranquillity similar to a dreamlike state. If at any point you want to stop, you can simply open your eyes – you are in control.
There are four stages of hypnotherapy:
- Induction – relaxation and breathing, similar to meditation, to help you rest and let go of conscious thought and worries
- Deepener – taking you into a deeper trance state through a guided journey using imagery, metaphors and suggestion
- Treatment – therapeutic work based on agreed approach with post-hypnotic suggestions for on-going maintenance
- Ending – bringing the session to full completion
Hypnosis and Integrated Therapy
Carla Devereux uses a combined psychological therapeutic approach with hypnosis to help you explore presenting issues and work towards achieving your goals.
Combining different elements from diverse counselling psychology methods makes integrative hypnotherapy a more flexible and tailor-made approach to therapy. You will gain a fuller and more comprehensive understanding of your situation, acquire new skills and apply them to your everyday life.
Covering Solihull, Birmingham, West Midlands and Warwickshire for face-to-face appointments once Covid-19 restrictions have eased. Currently doing sessions online via Zoom or FaceTime with clients worldwide.
The first time we meet we will talk about your symptoms and situation, and discuss what you are looking to achieve. Work will begin straight away as we explore underlying causes and start to formulate an action plan. You will most likely come away with some new insights and a few exercises to do prior to your next appointment.
Hypnotherapy is very different to stage and TV hypnosis. Stage hypnosis is for theatrical entertainment where participants volunteer knowing they will be performing to an audience. This often leads to a misconception about the use of hypnotherapy, triggering fear and lack of trust.
Hypnotherapy can be fast and effective depending on the symptoms, underlying causes and what you want to achieve. In some cases two or three sessions is sufficient, whilst for others it is part of a journey that takes time and commitment. For the work to be effective it is preferable to have regular sessions. The number of sessions needed is dependent on you, the presenting issue and how much you are willing to do between appointments. The more you engage with the process the less number of sessions you will need.
Hypnotherapy is relaxing, confidential and takes place in a safe and friendly environment. Should you feel apprehensive about your first or subsequent sessions, you are welcomed to bring a friend, parent or partner to the appointment. All hypnotherapy sessions are recorded and emailed for you to listen at home. In some cases you will be taught self-hypnosis so you can use it in short burst whenever needed. This is particularly useful when you’re experiencing high levels of stress. Children under 16 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian for every hypnosis session. Carla has a DBS Enhanced Certificate to work with children.
